Aciphex is prescribed to treat symptoms of gastrointestinal illnesses by reducing the amount of acid the stomach produces. It provides relief for associated symptoms such as difficulty swallowing, heartburn, and persistent cough. Aciphex helps heal damage done to the esophagus and stomach by excess acids. It helps prevent ulcers, and may assist in preventing esophageal cancer.
Aciphex is in the class of drugs known as Proton Pump Inhibitors. It is produced in the form of a delayed release tablet which is taken by mouth, usually after breakfast. Because of the enteric coating, the medicine should be swallowed whole, never chewed, split, or crushed.
Take Aciphex as directed. If a dose is missed, it should be taken as soon as it is remembered unless it is close in time to the next dose. In this case, the missed dose should be skipped. It is important not to take a double dose of this medication to make up for a missed one.
