The information below should not be taken as a substitute for qualified medical advice. Consult your health care provider before taking Inderal.
Inderal, and its long-acting form, Inderal LA, is a beta-blocker medication. Beta blockers block the receptors for certain chemicals in the body, epinephrine and norepinephrine, to decrease their effect. This effect is used to treat many cardiovascular problems, such as high blood pressure, arrhythmia, and chest pain, and to prevent heart attack. Inderal is also used sometimes to treat migraine headaches because of its effect on blood vessels.
Inderal should be taken with a glass of water, at the same time each day. Do not skip a dose of Inderal; this could have serious consequences. Seek immediate medical attention if you have taken too much Inderal. Do not take Inderal and drink alcohol.
Side effects of Inderal include insomnia, fatigue, decreased sex drive, diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, upset stomach, and constipation. More serious side effects of Inderal that require immediate medical attention are irregular heart beats that are either too fast or too slow; lightheadedness; feeling short of breath; swelling in the lower extremities; signs of liver failure such as jaundice, dark urine, discolored stools, and abdominal pain; fever, sore throat, skin rash, and headache; or a change in mental status such as hallucination or confusion.
Many medications can interact with Inderal and cause adverse drug reactions. Tell your doctor about any medication or supplement that you are taking before taking Inderal/ Inderal LA.
