What is Surgiderm? Surgiderm is a gel which is injected into the skin to reduce wrinkles and other skin depressions and enhance the l ips. It can also be used for filling out larger areas such as sunken cheeks and improving skin tone and elasticity.

How is Surgiderm used? It must be administered by a physician who has had the relevant training. After the affected area is carefully cleaned, a local anesthetic is used to ensure greater comfort in the process. After the numbness takes effect, the doctor uses a very thin needle to inject the appropriate Surgiderm below the wrinkles or lines being treated. If lip enhancement is the objective, the product is injected into the outer edge of the lips. Finally, the doctor will massage the area being treated to smooth down the injected product. The treatment usually takes from 15 to 30 minutes and the effects tend to last from nine to twelve months.

Since this product is biodegradable, it breaks down easily and is absorbed by the body over time.

Who should not use Surgiderm? This product should not be used on those who have a hypersensitivity to hyaluronic acid. It should not be used on women who are pregnant or breast-feeding.

Side effects: Typically the side effects of Surgiderm injections involve temporary redness and/or swelling at the treated site. Also some discomfort may be felt in the injected area. These effects tend to dissipate within a day or two after treatment. More rarely are there reported side effects of hypersensitivity, granuloma, superficial necrosis and urticaria.
