Tobrex Eye Drops are an aminoglycoside antibacterial solution used to treat eye infections. Tobrex eye drops are not effective in treating viral or fungal infections of the eye. Tobrex Eye Drops work by preventing protein synthesis in gram-negative bacteria.
When using the eye drops, shake the bottle, then tilt your head back, holding your lower eyelid, and squeeze a drop onto the eye. Close your eye and hold the corner of your eye near your nose for one minute to prevent the eyedrop from draining into your tear duct. If your doctor has recommended that you use multiple drops in one eye, wait 5 minutes between each eye drop application.
The Tobrex Eye Drop solution has been sterilized. It is important that the tip of the dropper not touch anything; this could compromise the sterility of the solution and potentially cause a different kind of infection in your eye.
Ask your doctor if you can wear contact lenses when using Tobrex Eye Drops. If your doctor says this is permissible, wait 15 minutes after applying Tobrex Eye Drops before inserting your contact lenses. Do not use other kinds of eye drops when using Tobrex Eye Drops, unless directed by your doctor.
Side effects of Tobrex Eye Drops include a burning sensation, eye itching, eye redness, eyelid swelling, sensitivity to light, and blurred vision. If you experience blurred vision while using Tobrex Eye Drops, do not operate machinery.
