About Tracleer
The information below should not be taken as a substitute for qualified medical advice. Consult your health care provider before taking Tracleer.
Tracleer lowers blood pressure in the lungs by preventing thickening in the related blood vessels. This action helps the heart operate more efficiently, prevents worsening of symptoms and improves the ability to exercise.
Tracleer causes birth defects, and must not be used during pregnancy. Women must be tested prior to beginning use, and regular testing may be recommended. Two non-hormonal forms of birth control should be used. Women should not become pregnant for at least one month after discontinuing use of this medication. Breastfeeding while using Tracleer is not recommended.
This medication may cause severe liver problems. Liver function must be monitored before beginning use, and monthly thereafter. Seek medical care immediately if you experience stomach or abdominal pain, persistent nausea or vomiting, extreme tiredness, loss of appetite, low fever, clay-colored stools, darkened urine, or yellowing of eyes or skin.
Discuss your full medical history before taking Tracleer, especially if you have liver disease or anemia. Along with liver function, hemoglobin levels should be tested monthly.
Discuss all medications and over-the-counter products you take. Individuals taking taking glyburide, cyclosporine, or HIV medications containing ritonavir or lopinavir should not use Tracleer. Also mention if you take medications for cholesterol, antifungals, blood thinners, erythromycin, amiodarone, tacrolimus, rifampin or diltiazem.
Seek emergency care if you experience allergic reactions, such as rash, difficulty breathing or facial swelling. Other serious effects may include rapid heartbeat, sudden weight gain, ankle or foot swelling, extreme tiredness, fainting, severe dizziness or coughing up blood, and should be treated immediately.
Other side effects may include flushing, headache, mild dizziness, fatigue, mild nausea and itching. Avoid alcohol while taking Tracleer. It can increase the risk of severe liver problems, and also increase dizziness.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember; however, if it is close to the next dosage time, wait to take another dose until the scheduled time. Do not take two doses at once.
