Ultravate Cream is a very strong, high potency corticosteroid used on the outside of the body, never internally. Cortcosteroids are typically used to reduce inflammation, in this case, skin inflammation. People suffering from skin disorders characterized by itching, irritation and/or inflammation may be suitable candidates for Ultravate Cream.
Always check the label for the exact directions for taking this medication. Also be sure to check that the label directions match your doctor's verbal directions.
Essentially, as the name implies, this is a cream that is applied to the affected area(s) of a patient's skin and gently rubbed in for thorough coverage. Do not use this cream if the affected area contains a sore or infection. Also be careful not to get it in any mucus membranes such as the mouth, nose or eyes. Hands should be thoroughly washed after applying the medication, unless the affected area to be treated is on the hands. Finally, do not cover the treated area unless directed to do so by the prescribing physician.
